Last night one of my teenagers crawled up on my bed at 10 o’clock to tell me everything that happened in her day, and I wanted to be fully there for it. I also wanted to be asleep an hour ago. That is kind of the whole season I’m in right now. My kids need me, my parents need me more than they used to, and the list of people pulling on my time never gets shorter. I love it. It is also a lot.
And here is the part nobody warns you about in this phase of life. You can do everything “right” with your food and your workouts, and if your week is wringing you out and you are running on five hours of sleep, your body will dig in its heels anyway. The scale won’t move. The belly fat hangs on. You feel a little crazy because you are trying so hard.
You are not doing it wrong. The rules you were handed just stopped working for you in this phase of life.
So let’s talk about the trio that runs the whole show. Sleep, stress, and your hormones. They are tied together, and once you see how, a lot of the frustration starts to make sense.
When you are stressed out and not sleeping, your body pumps out more cortisol. Cortisol is your main stress hormone, the one that is supposed to spike in short bursts and then settle back down. The trouble is, in this season, it rarely settles. It just stays up.
High cortisol is directly linked to belly fat. It also drops your energy, ramps up your sugar cravings, and makes fat loss so much harder than it needs to be. So you eat a little less, push a little harder in your workouts, and feel more depleted, which keeps the cortisol high. That is the loop you have been stuck in.
Here is the flip. When you are well rested and hydrated and supported, your hormones get the message that you are safe. They regulate. Your energy comes back. Your metabolism responds. This is what it looks like to work WITH your hormones instead of against them.
For years I was eating about 1,200 calories a day and grinding through the hardest workouts I could find. I had dark circles under my eyes. People kept asking if I was tired. I caught myself in the gym mirror one day and thought, I do not look good, and I did not feel good either, and I was not sleeping.
Then I learned how to fuel my body the right way. I bumped up to 1,800 calories a day, which was 600 more than I had been eating, and I lost six pounds and six inches in six weeks. I slept better. I built muscle. I was eating more than I had in years and I was happier than I had been in years.
I never planned to become a coach. I call myself an accidental health coach because I stumbled into something that worked and could not keep it to myself.
When Mollie first came to me she was doing random workouts and eating “healthy enough” without knowing how much to eat, and she felt helpless and out of control. We made sure she was eating enough, got her picking up heavier weights, and built a simple system she could repeat.
She is down 12 pounds, ten of those in her first 12 weeks. Her back pain went away. She gained muscle tone and energy, and she wore a bathing suit for the first time in a year. So proud of her.
You do not need an overhaul. Start with the small stuff that calms the stress and protects the sleep.
That is it. Pick one and do it tonight.
Here is what I want for you. I want you to release the belly fat that has felt stuck, get your energy back, and feel like yourself in your clothes again. Not by doing more. By doing it in a way that finally fits this phase of life.
That is exactly what we do together inside my 6 week reset. You will eat enough of the right foods for your body, lift in a way that builds muscle instead of burning you out, and get your sleep and stress working for your hormones instead of against them. Real food, real workouts, and real coaching from me the whole way through.
And if you have tried things before and stopped, this is not that. Those old rules were never built for where you are now. This is IT.
We kick off soon and I would love to have you in this one. Grab your spot right here: https://www.fasterwaycoach.com/?aid=annschulte
